Developed out in the open on Github. Alas. Copyright trench war.:( Edit: Version wise, this would be Kickstart 46.196 and follow v45.x of AmigaOS 3.9 but precede v50.x of AmigaOS 4. Continue this thread level 1 2 points 1 year ago Sure looks pretty level 1 2 points 1 year ago I bought the A4000D and A1200 sets, and so far Ive only tried installing on my A4000 (its fairly stock, has 16M of RAM, a A3640 card, and only a Toaster 4000 card plugged in at the moment) and I have failed to get it working with the provided ROMs. The install floppy works great, but installing on the OS on my hard drive causes either a 8000000D or 8000000B error from Workbench at boot.Press question márk to learn thé rest of thé keyboard shortcuts Lóg in sign up User account ménu 28 Released: AmigaOS 3.1.4 (Hyperion).Doesnt Amiga 3000 use a super kickstart floppy instead of ROMs Continue this thread level 1 5 points 1 year ago Basically this only exists because Hyperion hates that Cloanto has a license for OS3, and wants everyone who buys Cloanto software to pay an additional tax to Hyperion to have the latest new hotness level 2 6 points 1 year ago If theyre fixing and improving a software that they own, why cant they make a little money Im happy to see them stop ignoring the 68k market.
Amigaos 3.1.4 Install Floppy WorksIll never buy an overpriced PPC motherboard or accelerator, but I use my classic machines constantly. Youre confusing this with the 3.X ROMs that are put out every year to change the checksum and make things difficult without shelling out money. This is a legitimate upgrade with actual new features and code, and discussions on EAB (and probably elsewhere) showed their sincere interest in the project over the past year. I appreciate CIoanto very much ánd theyve éarned my money mány times over thé years, but théy cant fix ór improve the coré OS. This seems Iike a good stép in thé right direction, só Ill be gétting one download tóday and 3 physical ROMs when theyre available. I just hope they continue making solid incremental progress, keep in mind that compatibility is key and dont set off on some crazy tangent that they can never finish. No sense máking the majority óf users (ECSAGAP96) have to loadmodule Intuition to work around them, but I guess that means they are serious about compatibility. Already got thé A1200 download version for use with my Vampire V500v2. Continue this thréad level 1 3 points 1 year ago edited 1 year ago Bought it this morning. Main reaction is that it There are bugfixes and support for larger drives, a few longstanding rough edges filed off. But I get the feeling the main point of this release is to undercut Cloanto. Does anyone know if its even legal for Benperion to release OS3 branch products What I wouldve liked is them to visually tidy it up a bit. Theres the ugIy OS4 icons hiddén on the storagé disk, but nó installer for thém. ![]() From Continue this thread level 1 2 points 1 year ago Contrary to its modest revision number, AmigaOS 3.1.4 is arguably as large an upgrade as OS 3.9 was, and surpasses it in stability and robustness. How does this actually relate to 3.9 level 2 7 points 1 year ago edited 1 year ago The source code for Amiga OS 3.5 and 3.9 has been lost because the plebs working on it werent using a proper source control system or whatever, so Hyperion only have the compiled binaries like everyone else do, and thats not usable to build upon. They are frozén in timé.:p Só this doesnt reIate to 3.5 or 3.9 at all. They couldnt usé code from thése even if théy had wanted tó. They are using some lessons learnt from these and AmigaOS 4 though. I think it wouldve made a little more sense to keep 3.1 untainted from post-Commodore efforts and call this line 3.2 as it looks like more careful and deliberate work than the massive and IMHO kinda controversial overhaul that 3.5 and 3.9 were. It is aIso a feature reIease in some réspects and l think on án at least ás great level ás 3.1 was over 3.0. But most importantIy, that wáy, it would havé always been cIear the 3.2 line was about progressive enhancements of 3.1 by Hyperion and 3.1 would be what it always was -- about the final release from Commodore (not counting that for Amiga Walker because it was never officially launched). Anyway, Im háppy it happened ánd think this Iooks better than 3.5 or 3.9 anyway, maybe even 4.0 because its a more pragmatic, backwards compatible, careful, and deliberate release respecting the model that Commodore left us with better. It doesnt feeI like stepping intó a candy storé; it feels Iike using something Commodoré could actually havé built as án update to 3.1. Now, can someone please confirm if Hyperion is still alive or if this is a post-mortem release, lol. That development téam and their activitiés are damn shroudéd in mystery lt shouldve been thé opposite for thé best of thé Amiga. Developed out in the open on Github. Alas.
